Privacy: Doors Made into a Fence?

Old doors are pretty easy to come by. You can find them at architectural antique stores {Southern Accents is my favorite!} or the Habitat for Humanity store...you might even find them on the side of the road....literally.

I found all of these images on Pinterest and love the variation, but the single goal is to keep something in or out. Do you junk? This might be just for you!

You will find this door/fence outside the studio of Cranberry Press in New Mexico. Who wouldn't want to see what's behind door number........3?

 This would be a great idea for an event space. You can put up and take down the doors pretty easily and quickly.

I love this one. The hanging flower baskets add a lot of character. I think Hansel and Gretel may get a wall of doors very soon!

This one caught my eye because of the color. Finding doors that are the same height might be a problem, but these are very uniform and, yet, have their own personality.

You may remember the Southern Makers Event that I helped with the set design. 

We had a fence of doors, we also covered the dumpster with doors, shutters, vents and scoreboards! It's so fun to use these architectural pieces. They add lots of character to your space and don't have to be permanent!

Lucysinspired Friday Wrap-Up

This week has been full! It's amazing to  me how it can fill up so quickly! I've picked up a new social media client and think it's going to be a fun one! Lots of creative ideas floating around in my head!

Since Monday was a holiday, I got to go out to the creek party! house and take a few pictures. I shared a couple of them here. We were going to try and move in next week, but The Connor Farmer got it in his head it needed to happen today. He's got the moving truck out there unloading right now.....I guess I need to get ready to fluff! Here's one more peek before I head out.

On Tuesday, I headed North to Southern Accents. I walked around the store looking for what would go into our booth at the Birmingham Home and Garden Show. You have to come see me. It's going to be a great booth and we are doing giveaways! eeeek! I shot this picture and I'm still loving it! You can follow along Lucysinspired on Facebook to see things as they hit me!

Wednesday, I picked up a new client. I have this secret love of hardware, door hardware, that is. You've seen Lucy Locket's, right? I met Eric at Brandino Brass and we decided it was a perfect fit. I would start working on their social media. You may see Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter posts that sound a little like Lucy. If so, just click like or make a comment. We will all appreciate it! (thanks to Molly for the referral!) One reason I knew this would be a good thing? This door. I love this massive thing! I stood in front of it at SA last year and was amazed at the size of it. I love how they use it as the door to block off the storage area of the store! don't you?

Thursday took me to Deconstructive Waste Services. Sara and I will be friends. I can promise that! She has been salvaging cool architectural pieces from this recycling pile! I found some really cool things. Ashlee, Lori and I made a morning of it. We filled Ashlee's car and I have to go back with a truck for my haul! This one little pic sums it up! Thanks, Lori, for always capturing the moment! I will be giving you a personal tour of this place in a few weeks! Can't wait to share some of my favorite salvage places around the South!

I also got to meet the girls behind The Scout Guide Birmingham. I love their publication. It's gorge! You need to look for it around town. It's all about the to do and see in our area!

First Peeks from the Creek Party!

I guess I should explain why I call the creek house the Creek Party! First of all, it's a weekender kind of place. It's about 30 minutes outside of Birmingham and it's a family place. My husband has a huge family and he and his cousins have been working on this property for months! My vision for the house is that everyone will come out and play (party) every weekend! The main reason it got the name is because a year ago, we were selling the property on the other side of the creek and my son wanted to have his birthday party out there. We were going to camp out and canoe down the creek. I started a pinboard on Pinterest to gather all of my ideas! You know, s'mores buffet, tent invites, the whole shebang. Next thing I know, all the lots have been sold and my hubby decides to tell me we bought the property on the other side of the creek and we are going to build a cabin! Now, I started pinning cabin ideas to that board so I could keep up with the ideas! The Creek Party! was born.

I post about it all the time on my Lucysinspired page and I get questions about where and what I'm talking about. We have been working on it for several months and I have been out there a thousand times. I was usually so busy, I forgot to take pictures. Plus, it was all junked up with dust and generators and dumpsters! The floors upstairs were finished over the weekend and we needed to pick out the concrete stain color, so we made a day of it and went out to the house! I took my good camera and my iphone. I wanted to do a few sneak peeks on Instagram and do an official blog post when it was all done. I was just asked where a picture on facebook could be pinned from. Got me thinking about giving you all a little teaser! Here are just a few of the photos I took today.

This was taken standing inside the kitchen. Those beams were LVL beams and I was UPSET when I saw them! I wanted everything to be reclaimed. I couldn't quite find beams long enough for this room and they decided to go on without me. My brother, Charlie, was the contractor on site and he gave me the idea to clad the beams with barn wood. I wanted skins that were the same size as the LVL beams. Again, couldn't be found. I finally gave in and went to Southern Accents and had Shane pull the barn wood for me. These were skins from barn wood. It had been milled so that it was the same thickness and width. It was perfect! It's been a few weeks since I was there and when I walked in today, I was so impressed! They looked GREAT! What do you think?

I also love that rusted tin ceiling. The wood on the ceiling in the kitchen is pick wick paneling. I knew this room would be able to handle a lot of texture with the tall ceilings. I feel like the sheetrock is the perfect backdrop for all that beautiful texture! I can't wait for you to see the floors! #imgiddy

This was taken looking into the kitchen. You can see the seams from the barn wood (if you look closely). The painters are coming tomorrow to finish up the kitchen walls and put another coat on everything. We also decided to paint the floor in the loft red AND the stairs going into the basement! This photo is of the floors. OH MY GOODNESS! I'm in love with them!! They are hickory and very wide planks. Purchased from Southern Accents.  We just put a good clear coat on them to bring out the natural colors. That beam in the center of the room is an octagon. I've never seen a beam with 8 sides! Garlan sent me a picture of it one day laying out at the wood museum. I had to have it! I am such a sucker for something unusual. I can always find a spot for it somewhere! We used the ends of it as brackets for the fireplace. You can find a huge selection of beams.....you guessed it, Southern Accents! There's a lot more to show of this house! Can't wait to share it with you!

Framing Collage at the Hansel and Gretel House

 This wall was one of the first accomplishments after the move-in. I had two of my favorite decorating volunteers come over one day, Brandy and Laura.  I was still working with the electrician or the painter or the carpenter or maybe all of them!  I was so thankful. I mean, I couldn't have done this myself! I was non-making decision mode when it came to hanging pictures. They gathered all of these precious baby pictures and ran with it. Oh my, I absolutely love what they did! I was no where to be found while they were hanging. They didn't even ask me before they hung one thing. When it came time to fill in some of the holes, I took them out to the barn and we dug around for some pieces to hang. Actually, I think everything you see in this picture was there when I turned the corner. I could not believe they hung all of this and it looked so perfect! I think Laura used some Pinterest inspiration for the layout. I would have just nailed it up and moved it around! There would have been a million holes...eeek!

This house is built out of lots of wood! See this wall? Wood. The ceiling? Wood. I love this pattern of the wood for this wall. This house was built in the late 50's. This particular wall was part of the addition in the 60's. Nailing in this wall was not easy. At least we didn't have to search for a stud!

 I can't believe my kids were ever this small. That's not true.  I can remember how sweet they were. I do miss them at this age! 

That clock...I love it! Picked it up from Barney at Stray Cats several months ago!

This is a great shot of the whole wall. The staircase? It's huge! It came out of a courthouse. Man, have I told you how much I love this house? It has so much character!

I'm heading to Hendersonville, Tennesse on Friday. Get to meet up with Tracy and Leigh, again. We are going to the Vintage Marketplace. They are having a Tailgate-Music Antiques Show. I can't wait! One of my favorite Facebook shops will be there. Do you follow City Farmhouse? Swoon. It's amaze!

Stripping is Hard Work!

This week is crazy busy. Oh wait, that was last week and the week before.....you know the drill.

I worked with Dawn at the farm today in her cute, red, horse barn. We were stripping furniture. Um..not fun. The end result will be fantastic. Today's work, terrible!

 We also picked up a beautiful butcher block from France circa 1830. It is gorgeous! Not sure why I didn't get a pic of it. I will next week! I pulled out my new camera and was taking a few photos and realized Dawn is, like a professional photographer. She was all you need to put your fstop at blah and your shutter speed at blah. What's your ISO set on? Let me see it....yeah, whatever. Maybe I will learn a thing or two from her! I did take a few pics and then left my new camera on the chicken's window. I hope they took a few of themselves! They are a fuzzy group! I will have to share that tomorrow. I'm meeting her in the morning to get it and heading to the creek to get some updates on the Creek Party!

 Let's talk about Saturday. Emma and I got up at 6am to go to her gymnastics clinic in Huntsville. Talk about a long day!

I dropped her off and went to see a good friend from High School who tears down barns he sees along the side of the road.....seriously.......like, pulls up and asks if he can tear it down and haul it off. They say yes, he works for a couple of days. I reap the benefits! You can too! He has several beams  that would be amazing mantels!!

 I also have several ideas for these shorter pieces. Think bench, coffee table, side table. I just took pictures of what he had and if you need something or when I decide what I need, he will measure and find the perfect one!

This one will go to the Creek Party! house. I'm getting it from Southern Accents. It's like 6 sided! Very different and cool! We only need it to be 9'10". It will have to be cut. I guess we will just cut from both ends. That way we can save most of the character!

Let me know if you need rustic, salvaged pieces. I love helping everyone find the right piece for their space!! Helped a friend find a corbel today. I know it will be perfect. Just have to get a few closeups to show her tomorrow! My brain is full of inspiration all the time. I love that now I have Pinterest so that I can keep it organized. I swear I pulled up 10 ideas today to show Dawn and it was so easy because I had them all pinned to the perfect board!!

Hansel and Gretel Pictures!

I bought a new camera....yes, another one. Anyone get the feeling the problems are user related? help me

I have been dying to share photos of the Hansel and Gretel house. It's dark, people. Very dark. Yes, I have all of these cool, I mean really cool, light fixtures. They just don't put out a lot of light. We are in the woods. Not a lot of sunshine coming in! So, here goes. There seems to be a never ending supply of stuff to do around here. Lots more decorating and I need window treatments! I think I've taken a break from working all day on the house. I guess I need to get back at it this week!

This room needs some work. It still doesn't have a light fixture. I need Rhodas living room fixture over at Southern Hospitality! Or at least the same one at that price! The mantel needs a little work.  I guess I need to look at a mantel linky party and get some inspiration or just dig through my Pinterest boards? Just pretend you don't see the extra-large TV on the right. It's there and not going anywhere, but let's just pretend it's not there, can we?

I love this kitchen. LOVE IT! We added the yellow boards on the ceiling. Those cabinets? I am thinking about painting them? What do you think? The red light? My favorite purchase from Maine. The Sunbeam bread chalkboard. I die. It's so perfect there! My aunt gave me the closed sign. I find it fitting since I do not cook. Thank goodness for husbands that like to eat and can cook for the family! I guess that means the kitchen isn't closed, but it's still fitting! (wink)

My favorite window from Southern Accents. I love, love this window! Those antlers? They were outside on the barn and fell a few weeks ago. I thought they needed to come inside! A few pumpkins here, too. Just a sprinkle of Halloween on the inside. Most of our decor is outside!

Got corks? ha.....we like wine around here! FYI this collection has been accumulating for several years!

Southern Accents and a Creek Party!

It's an architectural antiques store in Cullman, Al. It's a small piece of heaven for me! I feel like its my way of recycling.

I go there at least once a month. I just walk through trying to see things that weren't there before and seeing things differently than the last time! I get very giddy when I find something I've never seen before. Those "eyebrows" in that photo above? They are cast iron and amazing!! I would love to use them in a house. They are HeAVy!!

We are working on a cabin on the creek. It's going to be a family house. My hubby and his boy cousins are all building it together. He has a couple of cousins that can do ANYTHING! It's going to be a great spot! It's on 40 acres and Shades Creek runs right down the front of the property. I'm telling you it is one of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen! It took my breath away when I saw it the first time. 

So, I went to Southern Accents the other day and picked out salvaged wood for almost every room! Ceilings and walls and the flooring for the upstairs. I can't wait to get started on the inside.

I love this look. I need to find a big sign to hang on the wall! It's so rustic and clean looking at the same time, don't you think? I begged to have exposed pipes, but I didn't win. I don't really know how that works or how they will be hidden? I need to go back out there and see! The salvaged wood I chose will look marvelous in the downstairs kitchen and open den. I will get Shane to deliver week after next!

This light! I actually have 2 of them. This was a find from a meet-up in Tennessee. Garlan will trade with other architectural salvagers. He picked up these lights on one of those trades. He sent me a photo and I put dibs on them immediately! I think he got them over 6 months ago. I really didn't have any idea what I would do with them. Well, they are coming to Birmingham this week! I have to have them wired, but they will look amazing in the kitchen at the creek house! The ceilings upstairs are around 16 feet in the kitchen. These will hang over the bar/counter! They have some really cool history, but I don't know what that is right now. G won't answer my calls.....geez, he must be busy with customers! How dare he?? I have a blog post to write!

I took this one the last time I was there; scaffolding and all! It's so cool to see a house from beginning to end. You can make changes at this point to walls. I am a sucker for using ALL the space available! We will have a loft now that wasn't on the plans. How can you just waste space up there? It's going to have beds. Maybe just mattresses on pallets! I did have a spiral staircase for it...it got busted up this week. Some people just don't know how to be conservative! They ripped it down and it broke into too many pieces to put back together. #brokenheart

I will leave you with a picture of the creek. This was taken last February. You can tell because there are no leaves! I will have to take a good shot of it next time I go!

Paint Colors

This HAS to be the hardest thing to do in the entire world!! The painter came over Wednesday. I had to tell him the colors we are using. This was the most stressful part of this house! With Pinterest, you would think it would be easy. There are so many pins on my for the home, cottage, paint the world white boards.......

No. You have to consider lighting. You have to consider your furniture. You have to consider the color of the floors. You have to consider trim. In my case you have to consider that the ceiling and beams are DARK, DARK brown.

I want the whole house to be as light as possible. I just love color, so it's hard to just go in and ask for white. Plus, it will just look like plain ole sheet rock if I do that! Well, most of our walls are wood. But, you get the idea! I did choose a color called Moonlight White. I chose this color because one of my cottage friends, Layla Palmer, uses it A LOT! Her cottage is ah-dorable! Check out her blog. She just finished her bathroom redo. Oh, and the just put this beauty on the market. Interested in buying a new home? This one is so cute!!

The living room may actually get painted today. I hope so. It's the one I'm not very sure about. Thursday night he brought a gallon of Sea Salt. Sounds beautiful, doesn't it? I had 1 quart of knitting needles. I asked him to put some of both on the walls. I didn't like either. For one, they were right next to a beam. On the wrong side from the window. You couldn't see them very well. They looked periwinkle. Ugh. When I opened the quart of Knitting Needles, my husband asked if it was white. It looked so light. (I wanted it to be as light as possible) On the wall, it looked like a baby's nursery. I'm very anxious to get over there and see how it looks with a whole wall painted. Did I mention the walls are currently yellow gold? Like beautiful fall leaves. It's a great color. Too much color for me and it clashes big time with my white/grey/periwinkle!

I scoured those Pinterest boards and found these colors. The Knitting Needles, I actually found a photo and used Sherwin Williams Chip It tool. Hello, have you tried it? It's so cool. You just upload a photo and it tells you the colors that are in the room!

I'm hoping the Knitting Needles turns out like I want it in the end. If my room looks like the one I pinned? I will be thrilled! If you haven't heard of the Chip It Tool. Check out the video below. It's really cool!!

Shop-a-haul-ic

Hi my name is Lucy and I'm a shop-o-holic. It used to be clothes (did I say used to be?). Now, it's home decor. (just now?) I do love it. I love finding things that I just can't live without. I also love to help others find things that they can't live without....or that they actually need. #whatever

For the last couple of years I have been working with Southern Accents. Yes, I do their facebook page and their Pinterest page. I also have a board dedicated to them on my own Pinterest page. I love to find unique items or unique ways to use items. Sometimes it's just placing it on a mantel. Most of the time, it's creating a new use!

They aren't quite the only place that I love to shop. I have a couple of other spots that I frequent. This week I'm going to Chattanooga. There is a salvage shop there, Architectural Salvage, that I love! They have lots of American and European architecture. I found this really cool green iron piece that I want. I have the perfect place for it at Hansel and Gretel's house. I just hope it will fit!!

I also love to go to Estate of Confusion to visit Greg. THIS is a treasure hunt!! I swear he has laundry bins full of old patterns from foundries. They are all different and I can find a million uses for them!!

I love to go in there for hours and dig. My mom isn't a fan. She wants to see it finished and gets impatient when I just walk around aimlessly. She will have to go to lunch while I'm there Thursday!

I plan on coming home with a few things. I will take lots of photos and then maybe you and I can make a road trip!

Changing my workout routine

Iron Tribe. Week 2. It's MWF at 10:30am. They do a 101 class for beginners.

Last week I couldn't walk or stand or sit after Monday's workout until about Thursday. Then, my triceps were so sore after Wednesdays workout, I couldn't move my arms until Sunday. Friday's workout was hard, but I only feel a little sore. Today.......it was a doozie! I'm going to need an extra set of arms. Seriously. It's high intensity for 6-15 minutes. Yes, that is the time of the workouts. The first one was 6:49 and today's was 15:08. Their reasoning is that you work at your highest possible intensity for a short period of time. You get more out of that than working longer because your intensity level will weaken.  OK, that makes sense.

They touched on eating habits today. We are supposed to bring in our journal on Wednesday to show what we've eaten.....I will get an F on this assignment. Period. I heard the whole, "you won't get change unless you exercise AND eat right".  I just don't know how to get motivated to eat right! I keep telling myself it will make my workouts easier.........I guess I need to test it. Today I've eaten 2 dove chocolates (dark), 3 cups of coffee 2 pieces of cheese, a diet mountain dew and I came home from the WOD and scrambled 3 eggs. So far so good! haha

I should add photos of inspiration since I don't want to post a photo of myself....just go look at my pinterest board...they might be a little far-fetched, but a girl can dream!

and then I found one! This is me and my besties running the Tinkerbell Half Marathon on my 40th Birthday weekend in California. We are having such a good time!! Thanks to Dave Mari for the photo!

It's the holidays! Time to celebrate!

How does it get so busy? Every year I say I'm going to be ahead of the game, right? It's just too hard. With all these things to distract me......Pinterest, Facebook, blogs, oh and that job I picked up! Geez. The first month I was a decorator, which was fabulous! I was in and out and working from home. Now, I'm officially full-time and I'm.worn.out!! If you aren't a fan of the Telegraph Facebook page, you should be. We are the coolest boutique ad agency in town! yeah! It's a super fun job...making commercials, designing logos, websites, getting creative with facebook pages..it's all the bomb.com.

I really need a week off BEFORE Christmas, though! Shopping done - nope. Decorating finished - nope. Kids parties at school planned - nope. Cookies and sweets baked - nope. Special touches (my favorite part) - nope. Going to Holiday parties like Alabama Chanin's Holiday Market tonight -  nope. I'm so sad. I wanted to go and I can't fit it in....I just have all that other stuff to do.....I could kinda get all that done in the four hours it takes to get to Florence and back! oh well....I get to go in May for a workshop. I just want to sit around and stitch, ya know?

I did get to go to a fun Cookie Swap last Sunday at the adorable Beth of Unskinny Boppys house. It was so much fun. Do you know she invited me and we have never met in real life! How cool is that? I think she has the magic touch on decorating skills and wanted to be her friend...so, we have been cyber friends for a while now! I also got to meet Lori from Click Workshops. Oh, there goes my Christmas list...it's all things photography now. I want a new D700, a Nikon 1, a new lense (any one will do) and a year's full of photography workshops with Click. Santa? Do you hear me? To make matters worse, I come in to work on Monday and Kevin and Isaiah decide they are going out to buy a camera! Green, I tell ya, I was green. They got the D5100 to shoot video and stills. For the love......I want to steal it and play with it all day! Oh, make that one more thing on the Christmas-I-haven't-gotten-to-it-yet-list. Pictures of the kids for Christmas cards - nope!

I guess that's why I decided to sit down and write out a blogpost. Make myself a list...maybe I will be held accountable....or the time will get here and it will have to get done, or else!

Hope your Holidays are all in order and you are sitting at home baking cookies with your kids, listening to Christmas music by the fire...which, is not going to happen here...it's 70 degrees out! Decorating Dilemma

You know how much I love Pinterest. I get lost in those boards for at least an hour a day. I really need to start a board of completed projects.....mine would be really small right now! Jessica Turner created one and inspired me to "think" about it. maybe next week!

I am always looking for fun ideas to post to Southern Accents FB page. I found this fabulous pot rack last week and I can't get it out of my mind!

I want to make one of these ASAP! There are so many pieces of iron in the iron gate lot at SA. This is the obvious choice......I think it's too ornate for me.

I know I can make one that is spectacular. The problem is, I need to take down my pendant lights over my island. What will I put there? I'm thinking I will just turn them into can lights. This would mean there would be no light fixture in my kitchen...oh how I love lighting! ugh....what should I do?
